That 13-foot high 1-ton solid Bronze Captain America statue will be unveiled in Prospect Park Brooklyn next week on Wednesday, August 10, from 1-3 pm. Later that night, Captain America: Civil War will be shown as part of Propect Park’s “A Summer Movie Under the Stars” program. A very nice day!

The dedication ceremony will be hosted by Lorraine Cink, actor and host of THWIP! The Big Marvel Show and The Marvel Minute, with special guests including Marvel Comics’ Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams, the New York City Joint Service Color, and the creative team who designed the statue including sculptor Dave Cortes. Following the dedication ceremony, Marvel and Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media will host a free community event open to the public featuring Captain American inspired activities, snacks, photo locations, and more.

The statue will be located at the Children’s Corner of Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY for two weeks, but then it will move around a bit:

After the two-week stop in Prospect Park, the Captain America statue will move to the plaza outside Barclays Center on Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues for September, during which several Marvel fan activations will take place. From late October through the remainder of the year, the statue will adorn the soon-to-be-opened Bed Bath & Beyond® in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Fans of all ages will enjoy a specially re-designed statue base, for heightened interactivity and photo opportunities with Captain America, as well as see and shop for a variety of unique Marvel items, including limited quantities of scaled replicas of the bronze statue itself.

One aspect of the redsigned base will be the addition of the names of creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, a move which was the subject of a successful petition.

The statue’s final resting place after Bed, Bath and Beyond is not known. The thing is too huge and heavy and impressive tokeep in mothballs, though, so  someone who knows a good synergy move when they hear it is sure to snap it up for somewere.

  1. When will there be a Mexican Super Hero like Captain America -how much more ‘American’ and you get unless you have the ***!el Capitan!***

Maybe this statue can reside in Mexico City for a good year some place… Does anyone have any suggestions where this statue would be great to have placed in Mexico City for a year? ;-) I need to know, because it is a fun idea… :^D

***This must be done. Make it like a Brit-Mex Superhero from the USA, protecting the integrity of SEQUENTIAL, as a ‘comic book’ EiC during the day, and has this amazing shield with the fire eagle and snake on it that jump off and out and he can use them to take back the South West US -or he at least it like, “Let’s all just breed them out…”… LOL!!!!

This could be his theme song:
