When the Image Expo 2013 was announced there were, understandably, questions about why it was on a Tuesday instead of a more accessible weekend date. Well, tickets are on sale (as of this morning) and aFAQ now answers this and many other questions: As explained, this is really a press and retailer event but open to the public for $20. And there will be panels and signings and stuff but no vendors. And:

WHY ON A TUESDAY?

Image Expo 2013 is a professional event, and many attendees will be members of the press and comic book retailer community as a part of their jobs. However, the tickets available to fans will allow an exclusive chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the comic book industry in action.

A Tuesday is still a bit of a hard day to travel, esp. three weeks before Comic-Con but…we’ll see.

The Image Comics Expo will be held Tuesday July 2nd at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts San Francisco, CA. GUests announced thus far include Robert Kirkman and Ed Brubaker.

  1. The problem with this is that Tuesday is New Comics Receipt day, which, for me at least, is the single busiest work day of the week — roughly 6-10 hours of labor, depending on the size and shape of the week, and whether UPS shows up on time, or crazy late.

I often am not done working until well after 6 PM.

So, I think a lot of comics retailers are going to have a fairly hard time making it, and those that do show might well be sweaty and unpresentable….

  2. Brian, that’s July 2. Is Diamond delaying comics due to the Fourth of July?

Maybe I’ll celebrate my birthday in SF. I hear it’s rather cool there that time of year…

    Huh?

The 4th is a Thursday, why would they delay comics, when Wednesday is 7/3?
