ICv2 has started its annual round of CEo chats and kicks off with IDW's Ted Adams in three parts.. Adam sis a good choice because IDW has made significant recent gains as the first new front-of-thebook publishers since exclusives were invented, and he doesn't give you a lot of double speak. A few excerpts: On pricing (IDW has always been $3.99):

EXCLUSIVE: Preview of Miss Fury from the Library of American Comics

4 Comments POSTED ON Feb 02 2011 AT 9:00 am BY The Beat

Tarpé Mills is a name well known to comics historians, not only as one of the best of the female cartoonists of the war years, but as the creator and artist of Miss Fury, one of the first successful superheroine characters, which ran for nearly a decade as a sunday newspaper strip. It was a lively blend of outre characters, adventure and naughtiness. This April Dean Mullaney's Library of American Comics is reprinting the best of the strips in a deluxe volume complete with an introduction by comics historian Trina Robbins. Mullaney provided a desception of the volume and this preview for our Anniversary week:

Afternoon reading: Sean Murphy’s Off Road – update

1 Comment POSTED ON Jan 26 2011 AT 2:16 pm BY The Beat

Before there was JOE THE BARBARIAN, there was Sean Murphy's OFF ROAD, the story of some guys on a weekend trip that becomes, by turns, confessional and dangerous. Kind of like the Breakfast Club in a jeep. IDW has released a new edition today -- the original was published by Oni. More proof that when you OWN YOUR WORK you can keep making money off it.

Cameron Stewart’s finished Suicide Girls cover

5 Comments POSTED ON Jan 26 2011 AT 12:00 am BY The Beat

When we ran yesterday's news about a new Suicide Girls comic from IDW, the PR included a rough version of the cover by Cameron Stewart. Stewart tweeted the finished version and it's a lot nicer. And for a comic based on a website featuring nude models, it is totally classy.

IDW launches Suicide Girls comic

31 Comments POSTED ON Jan 25 2011 AT 5:52 pm BY The Beat

Actress Brea Grant, artist David Hahn and cover artist Cameron Stewart are not a creative team to be taken lightly. The Suicide Girls are an early adapter in the "tattoo'd Goth Girls are sexy" derby, and for a subscription you can look at naked but kind of artful photos of lots of them, and the individual models have more of an empowered air about them than most naked girl sites. Anyway, a comic book.

The Book Report: Bargain Bin: DVD-ROMs

8 Comments POSTED ON Jan 23 2011 AT 7:00 pm BY Torsten Adair

A minor market segment, these box sets offer what most fans are clamoring for: ownership of the actual file instead of an app, affordable comics (even at $50, the per-comic cost is usually below twenty-five cents), and extras which turns these collections into electronic omnibuses. However, due to sticker shock, and the experience of reading these comics on a horizontal screen, many fans have been reluctant to purchase these collections. Which means that now, as the digital marketplace transitions to apps and browser-based readers, these older CD- and DVD-ROM collections are being sold at clearance prices. So, dear readers, in these challenging economic times, we offer you this bargain bin listing of select titles found on Amazon.com. We make no money from directing you to these forgotten gems, and, as with anything on the web, caveat lector et emptor.

17 Comments POSTED ON Dec 07 2010 AT 11:00 am BY The Beat

Alex Toth fans rejoice. Dean Mullaney and Bruce Canwell's long-awaited book on Toth, including a biography and little seen art -- has expanded to a three volume, slip-cased edition, to be published by IDW. Toth's children, Dana and Eric, were consulted in the writing process and it promises to be a comprehensive, lavishly illustrated affair. The first volume, Genius Isolated, ships in March 2011 and spotlights his early work and life until the 60s. Genius, Illustrated follows his life in Animation, and Genius Animated includes little seen animation models and drawings. A slipcase will ship with the third volume.

Bob Schreck to start GN line for Legendary Pictures

9 Comments POSTED ON Nov 03 2010 AT 6:22 pm BY The Beat

Bob Schreck, one of the industry's best regarded editors, has left his position as Senior Editor at IDW to start a comics division for Legendary Pictures (not Entertainment, as the IDW release states), according to PR that just went out. The parting was amicable. Legendary Pictures, founded by Thomas Tull, has produced such films as Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Hangover, Inception, and Where the Wild Things Are, so the connection to starting their own comics company is pretty obvious and Schreck is well qualified to start such an effort.
