InterGalactiCon is the brainchild of former Playstation and DEF CON EXEC Steve “Captain” Kirk, who The Beat interviewed last month. When asked the reason for creating InterGalactiCon, Steve had said, “We wanted to design this as an experience. Something broad like Comic-Con can be, but more accessible and more-easy to get into. More space and easier to interact with your friends.” InterGalactiCon has been Steve’s passion project for more than sixteen-months now, consuming his days and nights with planning.
As a four-player co-op similar to the likes of the Left 4 Dead franchise, each player will take the helm of one of four characters: a hacker, a firefighter, an ex-gang member, and a utility worker. Unfortunately, these characters will not have any special skills revolving around their individual experiences.
One notable memory she shared was from her work on the movie The Hidden. In it, she played as a stripper with an alien housed inside her body. “I sort of lied to get the role,” she said. The director had fired one actress for the role Claudia auditioned for, due to not having a look right for the role. Claudia cupped her hands in the air just in front of her chest to explain what she meant by this. “I was really skinny at the time, so I was pretty much all straight there.”
Encountering pokemon in the wild has gotten a major change from all the titles in the past. Now, wild pokemon will be visibly milling about as you travel through tall grass, forested areas, and caves. This gives players the option of avoiding battles entirely. This also helps out when looking for a particular pokemon, saving all the time and energy usually wasted on random chance encounters.
One area that didn’t get too much attention during the Nintendo Direct were the subject of stages. So far, we know every stage will come with a battlefield and omega form, and from footage shown we know that some old favorites like “Princess Peach’s Castle” and “Tortimer Island” will be making a return. After playing the game, I found that there are more past stages making a return, such as my personal Nintendo 64 favorite, Saffron City.
After a year of proven success under the Nintendo Switch’s belt, the current-gen console has already set itself far apart from its predecessor. For me, I felt that Nintendo’s presentation was solid, focusing as much as possible on the games, which at the end of the day is really all that gamer’s want. Without a doubt, Nintendo has been having one of the best years it has had for a while. With such momentum built up behind them, I think Nintendo has hit this year’s E3-timed Direct out of the park.
One of the most impressive aspects of this game is the character roster. Every character from Super Smash history is seeing a return, including fan favorites Snake, Falco, and Ice Climbers. Characters like Dark Pit who were a reskin of other playable characters have been now reclassified as “Echo Fighters,” designated with a small symbol next to their names that resembles the letter “E.” One new Echo Fighter will be Princess Daisy, a counterpart to Princess Peach. The returning Pokemon Trainer will now be available in both male and female forms.
Hitman 2 will be able to accommodate around two-thousand NPCs and will offer new game mechanics: The crowd mechanic allows the player to lose themselves in crowds if they are being hunted and if the crowds are not suspicious or fleeing; The picture in picture mechanic will allow the player to see other sections of the map by use of devices; Lastly, the Sniper Briefcase will return, but this time will be able to accommodate more items that the player may want to conceal.
Fallout 76 will take place in the roaming landscape of West Virginia. Todd Howard, Director of Bethesda Game Studios, says this was done because, “this is where the actual nuclear secrets are stored.” The game follows an inhabitant of Vault 76, who is one of the first vaults to open during “Reclamation Day” and is therefore tasked with being the first to explore the “untamed wastelands.”
The most exciting news, however, is that Anthem is to not include the use of loot boxes. Though there will be monetization in the form of cosmetic and vanity items, Bioware said that there will be no game advantages available through real-world money. As EA’s focus in recent years has been on the support of loot boxes, this is a refreshing update.
