When the story broke about J. Michael Straczynski replacing Ben Templesmith with CP Smith, as artist on his Image series Ten Grand after Templesmith went into extreme radio silence, many wondered if Templesmith was okay. We reached out to him and he emailed back to say he had apologized to JMS, and the communication breakdown […]

When the news broke earlier that co-writers JH Williams II AND W. Haden Blackman (and not just Williams, as some sites reported) had quit Batwoman due to editorial interference, it was clearly going to be a big issue for the day. What’s been most worrying THOUGH is how quickly people have attempted to spin this […]
The unthinkable has happened. A cartoonist has been hired for a job that pays a living wage. Instead of heating up old shoe leather to serve with his peanut butter, he’ll be able to invest in a George Foreman grill and serve grilled chicken on his top ramen, just like the serving suggestion on the […]
Manhattan’s Adam Baumgold Gallery will be hosting a show called Seth – It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken starting on the 9/10 and as is their tradition they have a pretty amazing gallery of all the art in the show up on their website. The show spotlights Seth’s classic graphic novel about his […]
Valiant has just announced it’s teaming with Mexican publisher Kamite to distribute a new line of Spanish-language versions of the Valiant line. Foreign publishing deals are a smart way to cut your creative costs down and develop new audiences. This is the golden era of indie comic, artistically and even financially, at least in term of the number of publishers, CAFs and cartoonists who wake up every day excited to be cartooning. It’s a movement that is aesthetically and formally as exciting as anything else going on out there.
All of which makes the Jason Karns Kerfuffle all the more unusual.
An interesting story’s been picked up by Multiversity today, as it appears that artist Ben Templesmith has been replaced on Image’s Ten Grand series with CP Smith. The reasoning appears to be because Templesmith has allegedly gone MIA, and stopped responding to emails from writer J Michael Straczynski or his Joe’s Comics team. Steve Morris […]
Well, speaking of wandering around the comics landscape, if there’s one tour guide who seems to know what he’s talking about, Paul Gravett is among the most intelligent and accessible comics critics and historians out there. His "1001 Comics You Must Read Before You Die actually about 1001 comics you may want to read, his […]
I don’t know why this news hasn’t been picked up at every entertainment blog everywhere. A comic book has been optioned for a live action “tv” show. Actually not just optioned: THE SHOW IS IN PRODUCTION! And PHOTOS OF THE STARS ARE ONLINE. Granted, there are a few quirks that make this news somehow less […]
In a letter posted to his website today, JH Williams III has announced that he and co-writer W. Haden Blackman have quit Batwoman due to editorial interference. He cites being blocked from telling several stories he wanted to tell as being the reason for leaving – most crucially that DC told him that he would […]
