Morrison menaces MCR in full length video

2 Comments POSTED ON Oct 14 2010 AT 9:12 am BY The Beat

Previously, teased, the full length video for My Chemical Romance's "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" has just been released, featuring band members in a post-apocalyptic desert chase with a villain portrayed by Grant Morrison. There's apparently more adventure to come as the band members all have new fantasy personas (think Gorillaz) and a new album called Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The clip was co-directed by frontman/writer Gerard Way and Roboshobo, and definitely seems to have been storyboarded by a mutant combination of Paul Pope and George Miller, featuring a storyline filled with ray guns, roller skating and vampires.

Is the price cut really going to save comics?

44 Comments POSTED ON Oct 13 2010 AT 6:15 pm BY The Beat

The price rollbacks at Marvel and DC represent, as far as we can tell -- paging John Jackson Miller! -- the first time prices on comics have been significantly cut. iFanboy has a solid analysis of the page count and format issues but the log line is that:

The Walking Dead at NYCC

Share this link on Facebook!TweetNo, that’s not a reference to what I felt like the Sunday after fighting my way across last weekend’s uber-crowded, nerd sweat fueled NYCC convention floor.  Of course, you know that already.  You know what I’m talking about, people.  I’m talking about the highly anticipated AMC TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s much beloved comics [...]

Quote of the Day: Warren Ellis

There is a small, snivelling and flinching part of me that would rather not have his name inextricably linked with The Last Comic Book Movie Flop Of 2010. But, you know, I am today pretty much at peace with the whole thing. I’ve met fine people and I’ve learned many useful things, and that is the most you can ask of any walk.

More views of NYCC 10

6 Comments POSTED ON Oct 13 2010 AT 8:05 am BY The Beat

Don't worry, we're not going to spend the next five weeks going over reactions to New York Comic Con...probably just this post, our own wrap-up and whatever news fallout emerges. Fun Fact #1: This year, it's been hard to find personal blog accounts of the show. Like San Diego, NYCC has become the province of a lot of professional bloggers and journos, so even a Google blog search comes up with lots of variations on "Marvel vs Capcom!". Fun Fact #2: Even though our own immediate reaction to the show was that it worked for what it was supposed to be, there have been a lot of complaints. This isn't really surprising -- there were a lot of rough patches in security, crowding, scheduling and more -- but it shows that the crowd had high expectations for the kind of experience they were going to get, and when it fell short, they felt it.

More focus grouping: Ladies Comics Project, Part 2

8 Comments POSTED ON Oct 12 2010 AT 12:15 pm BY The Beat

Kelly Thompson has part 2 of her Ladies Comics Project up and we repeat THIS SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING for comics publishers and creators. The idea of giving comics-friendly but not necessarily conversant readers various comics is a bracing alternative to the endless nitpicking of constant readers who sleep on mattresses stuffed with shredded copies of DEATHMATE. For instance, 37-year-old event planner DeAnne was disappointed the cool pop art cover looked nothing like the insides:
