Y: The Last Man, the classic Brian K. Vaughan / Pia Guerra Vertigo series is getting adapted for TV over at FX and now it has a cast.

But first, a moment of silence to contemplate a Disney unit (assuming the acquisition goes through) producing a TV show based on a DC property.

Right.  Now brace yourselves, as this is a TV show with some serious movie cred in its cast.

Yorrick Brown: Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer)
Senator Jennifer Brown: Diane Lane (needs no introduction)
Agent 355: Lashana Lynch(Captain Marvel, Bulletproof)
Hero Brown: Imogen Poots (Green Room, Frank & Lola)
Beth: Juliana Canfield (Succession)
Nora: Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water)

That’s a pretty good base cast.  Dr. Mann is notably missing from the first announcement.  And, of course, Ampersand.

In case you missed the earlier announcements, the showrunners are Michael Green (American Gods, Logan) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn), so this one just keeps getting more interesting as things get announced.

  1. This has to be a no-brainer for a really important hit, doesn’t it? I remember when Children of Men came out and it was in everyone’s conversation, and how I still couldn’t get the non-comics friends I had to even look at Y the Last Man comics. With the success of The Handmaid’s Tale, Y adapted on TV could be just as phenomenal, and could really get people buying Y graphic novels. Hope it goes for a more high-minded adaptation of the essence of the book.

Like the casting; Imogen Poots as Hero is on the money
