It’s been 45 years since Dungeons and Dragons first launched, and five years since Fifth Edition transformed the popular tabletop game into an international sensation. To celebrate both anniversaries, Wizards of the Coast is launching a limited edition dice set featuring a gnome-grown* sapphire on November 21.

“When the D&D team realized the sapphire is the traditional anniversary stone for both five years and forty-five years, and that adding a laboratory-created sapphire to a 20-sided die wouldn’t jeopardize the integrity of a roll, we couldn’t pass up the chance to make something really cool to celebrate the milestones,” said Nathan Stewart, VP of the D&D Franchise at Wizards of the Coast. “The team put together a fun product for our fans that includes art and newly updated stats for sapphire dragons, making these classic dragons ready for play in your next D&D session.”

The D&D Sapphire Anniversary Dice Set includes 11 custom-designed aluminum dice from Level Up Dice. One of the D20s houses a sapphire grown by a rock gnome artificer*, making it a true collectors’ item. Each set also includes commemorative stickers, a sequentially numbered collector’s card confirming authenticity, a dice box and matching dice tray displaying the D&D ampersand, and fifth edition stats and details introducing the sapphire dragon. Plus, every die (minus the sapphire-embedded D20) has an engraved ampersand on the highest number.

Only 1,974 D&D Sapphire Anniversary Dice Sets will be available to the public at a list price of $299 on November 21, 2019 starting at 11 a.m. PT, directly from Wizards of the Coast. The set commemorates both #5yearsof5e AND 45 years since D&D’s first publication in 1974. For more information, click here.
