Good news for the unholy creatures of the night in the audience: What We Do in the Shadows has been renewed for a third season at FX.
The series follows the exploits of four vampire roommates on Stanten Island: Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo Cravensworth (Matt Berry), the energy vampire Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), along with their fifth roommate, Nandor’s human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a reluctant descendant of Van Helsing.
The series has also been filled with some show-stopping guest stars, including Mark Hamill as Jim the Vampire in season two’s “On the Run,” and Flight of the Conchords alum Arj Barker, who appeared as a werewolf in season one’s “Werewolf Feud.” The series has also had some fantastic recurring roles like Jenna (Beanie Feldstein), who will hopefully appear in the third season after Feldstein’s schedule prevented the character from appearing in season two.
Like Dracula, an epistolary novel made up of “found records,” What We Do in the Shadows takes the form of a documentary being made about the vampiric roommates. The sitcom is based on the 2014 movie of the same name, which was written and directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement (and as revealed in the season one episode “The Trial,” the show is technically a sequel to the movie).
Over the first two seasons of the series, which was created by Clement, the roommates have had plenty of adventures both inside and outside their home, meeting not just other vampires but crossing paths with additional members of New York’s spooky community, including trolls, zombies, and Babadooks.
The second season is currently airing on FX, with episode eight of ten airing on Wednesday, May 27th, and the season finale airing on June 10th, and you can watch each week’s new episode the next day on Hulu.
