Hard to believe it’s been more than two years since the Marvel Studios animated series What If…? debuted on the Disney+ streaming service. After the long wait, the release details What If…? Season 2 have finally been announced. In addition, the trailer for the new season was also released.

Inspired by the concept of the eponymous Marvel anthology comic, What If…? explores alternate histories in the Marvel Universe if key moments had not occurred as they did in mainstream continuity.

The Watcher returns to season two of Marvel Studios’ “What If…?” when the animated series begins streaming on Disney+ on Dec. 22. And in the spirit of the holiday season, fans are invited to unwrap a new episode nightly for nine nights.

Season two of “What If…?” continues the journey as The Watcher guides viewers through the vast multiverse, introducing brand new and familiar faces throughout the MCU. The series questions, revisits and twists classic Marvel Cinematic moments with an incredible voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their iconic roles. Featuring fan-favorite characters this season like Nebula, Hela and Happy Hogan, episodes are directed by executive producer Bryan Andrews with executive producer AC Bradley as head writer.

As revealed earlier in the year, What If…? Season 2 will introduce Kahhori, a new hero into the Marvel Universe in an episode that ponders “what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America.”

It also appears that Happy Hogan (with Jon Favreau once again playing the character) will get into his own Die Hard adventure. We’ll also get tales involving Hela, the Ten Rings, the Grandmaster, and much more. Whether or not the epic Loki finale and his new status overseeing the multiverse factors into this new season of What If…? remains to be seen.
