Webtoon Entertainment’s Line Digital Frontier has announced a new webcomic production company, Studio White, in collaboration with prolific Japanese publisher Kadokawa and renowned South Korean webcomic production company Redice Studio.
Launching in May, Studio White will adapt stories from Kadokawa’s extensive library to create new, original webcomics for Webtoon readers, with Redice Studio’s additional expertise. The latter is behind massive hits including Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, 7FATES: CHAKHO, Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple, and more.
Studio White will debut with stories based on the fantasy light novel franchise Record of Lodoss War by Ryo Mizuno, which will be available on Webtoon in Korean starting May 9. English, Japanese, French, Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian translations will follow soon after.
Record of Lodoss War was initially developed as a Dungeons & Dragons replay in 1986, then adapted by Mizuno into some of the earliest Japanese high fantasy novels in 1988. The story follows Parn, the son of a dishonored knight, who adventures in search of answers to what happened to his father and to restore his family’s honor. He’s accompanied by several different figures, all of whom fit specific roles or types in the story.
“More than 30 years have passed since Record of Lodoss War first came to life, and seeing it take on a new form as a Webtoon webcomic is genuinely moving,” said Mizuno. “This new story explores an untold chapter of the war, one that has never appeared in the novels. I provided the original concept and placed my trust in a production team I believe in deeply to bring the characters and world to life.
“Honestly, I’m looking forward to reading it myself and discovering what kind of battles unfold through the dynamic vertical scroll format,” Mizuno continued. “I hope longtime fans will find something new here, and that newcomers will find it a welcoming door into the world of fantasy storytelling.”
“We are excited to announce an adaptation of Record of Lodoss War, an important story to Kadokawa and in the history of light novels, into a Webtoon webcomic,” said Naohisa Yamashita, Director and CO of Kadokawa Corporation. “We are truly delighted to continue bringing our own stories to the world in collaboration with Webtoon Entertainment and Redice Studio.”

Following the Record of Lodoss War webcomic launch, Studio White will follow up with spin-off webcomics based on Sword Art Online, written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec; Slayers, written by Hajime Kanzaka and illustrated by Rui Araizumi; and The Familiar of Zero, written by Noboru Yamaguchi and illustrated by Eiji Usatsuka.
“Partnering with industry leaders Kadokawa and Redice Studio on Studio White is a proud moment for our team,” said Shin-Bae Kim, Representative Director and CBO of Line Digital Frontier. “With Kadokawa’s renowned IP and Redice Studio’s incredible production quality, Studio White will give global audiences an entirely new way to experience these beloved titles on Webtoon and Line Manga.”
“We are thrilled to unveil these series in a new format for the first time through Studio White, in collaboration with Line Digital Frontier and Kadokawa,” said Jung-Sook Jang, CEO of Redice Studio. “The original stories provided by Kadokawa have given us endless inspiration and our team has poured their hearts and souls into breathing new life into these adaptations. Carefully crafted over many years, we hope readers everywhere will enjoy what we have created together.”
The launch of Studio White follows Line Digital Frontier’s 2025 investment in No. 9 Inc., a Japanese webcomic and manga studio founded in 2016. The investment marked Webtoon’s first in a Japanese studio and was intended to help boost Webtoon’s content pipeline in Japan, which is the fastest growing market for the company.
