What happens when two iconic characters like Vampirella and Red Sonja team up? Fans are about to find out in Dynamite’s new ongoing series set to begin this September, Vampirella/Red Sonja.
Eisner-winning writer Jordie Bellaire (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Redlands) and artist Drew Moss (Star Wars) lead the series that starts in 1969, the genesis of Vampirella and her first experiences on Earth. As she discovers her new home and delves deeper into the supernatural, she runs across a young, time-displaced Sonja. The two decide to investigate (and kick a little ass along the way) to figure out exactly what is going on and how they got there.
Rebecca Nalty (Xena Warrior Princess, GLOW) joins the book on colors and Becca Carey (Planet of the Apes) takes on lettering duties. The first issue also features covers by Terry and Rachel Dodson, Julian Totino Tedesco, Babs Tarr, and Leonardo Romero (with Bellaire on colors)
“Vampirella and Red Sonja are like the buddy cop team we never realized we wanted or could have. We’re hoping to stick the landing on something funny, upbeat, and mysterious,” said Bellaire. “Vampirella and Red Sonja will begin as strangers but soon become fast friends that look to support and encourage the other, all while being comical and maybe slightly murderous. This book has been a pleasure to write and I’m delighted with the team. Everyone is bringing something awesome to the story! I’m so happy to be here with them.”
Moss adds, “It has been a joy working with such a talented group of people, from the writing, colors, letters, and editorial, they are the best. When I was first offered this book I was intimidated by the characters but when I was told we were just going to tell the best story we could, I knew I had to be a part of it. Every time a script, colors, covers, or pages come in, the excitement builds inside me. I just hope people will be as excited as I am.”
Vampirella/Red Sonja #1 can be preordered this July at your local comic shop and will be released in stores and online at Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more in September.
