It’s no exaggeration to say that there’s no shortage of adaptation of A Christmas Carol. A favorite of many is 1983 theatrical featurette Mickey’s Christmas Carol featuring various Disney characters in the story’s role including (unsurprisingly) Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s worth noting that the animated short was based on Disneyland Records audio musical from 1974. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Marvel has announced an Uncle Scrooge: A Christmas Carol one-shot written by comics legend Louise Simonson and drawn by a lineup of superstar of Disney artists, including Fabio Celoni, Francesco D’Ippolito, Paolo Mottura and Marco Mazzarello. The issue will feature a cover dawn by none other than Walter Simonson.
This isn’t merely a rehash of the aforementioned Disney animated short but according to the press release a blending of “Marvel Comics action, Scrooge’s trademark humor, and whimsical adventure as his latest treasure hunt takes him beyond the stars and back—wrapped in a lesson he’ll never forget!” Moreover, rather than an adaptation of the Dickens classic, it seems like the this story is firmly set in the world of Uncle Scrooge.
