Thor: Love and Thunder, the much-anticipated latest entry in the MCU, arrives this weekend in theaters! Reviews all over the board with some gushing over it while others are decidedly less than impressed. Whatever your opinion, I think we can all agree it’s great to see filmmaker Taika Waititi incorporating more from the original comics into the franchise, including possibly the breakout stars Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder, Thor’s screaming goats!

Debuting in Thor Annual #5, Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder are based on Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, the goats of Norse mythology that pull Thor’s chariot. In Love and Thunder, they serve the same function but with noticeably more screaming. According to screenwriter Zack Stentz, the goats were actually pitched way back during Phase I, but apparently Kevin Feige & company thought the idea was too nuts. Thankfully, as Stentz points out, Marvel has loosened up considerably since its early days.

Unsurprisingly, Disney already has merchandise featuring Thor’s screaming goats including a set of plushies available through shopDisney.
