Back in February, Marvel announced a partnership with Serial Box, creators of serialized prose fiction, for a series of new weekly stories starring Marvel’s classic stable of characters. Now Serial Box has released details on the first of those series, Thor: Metal Gods, which will star the God of Thunder and his brother, Loki, in a new tale. The series, which is scheduled for release on December 12th, will introduce several new characters, and take Thor and Loki on a journey to find an alien artifact in order to save a distant world from destruction.
Here’s Serial Box’s description for Thor: Metal Gods, which features a writing staff including Aaron Stewart-Ahn, Jay Edidin, Brian Keene, and Yoon Ha Lee:
Thor and Loki embark on a cosmic odyssey to stop the return of an ancient evil.
A space adventure on an epic scale, Metal Gods propels Thor and Loki on a quest to recover a dangerous alien artifact. Together with a Korean tiger-goddess, a charismatic, gender-fluid space pirate, and Frost Giant mercenaries, the sons of Odin must each confront their pasts and face the truth behind the destruction of a planet that Thor once tried to help. Tinged with humor, celestial horror, complex relationships, space battles, barroom brawls, and blasts of sheer fun.
Thor: Metal Gods will be the first Marvel series produced by Serial Box; other heroes to be featured in future stories include Jessica Jones, Black Panther, and Black Widow. Serial Box has made a similar arrangement with DC to produce series based on The CW Arrowverse heroes, the first of which will be The Flash: Rogues. The release date for that series has yet to be announced.
Serial Box presents installments of their series in multiple formats. Subscribers can read the latest ‘episode,’ or listen to it as an audio drama. No word yet on who will be providing voices for Thor: Metal Gods, but other licensed Serial Box series have featured talent previously associated with the property. Most notably, actress Tatiana Maslany returned to narrate a series based on the BBC America TV series Orphan Black.
Thor: Metal Gods launches on Serial Box on December 12th, 2019.
