We’ve seen Batman’s junk, but now we may get to hear his potty mouth. According to director Zack Snyder, his 746-hour* cut of Justice League may include Batman dropping an F-bomb. At least that’s what he told Entertainment Weekly.
“Here’s one piece of information nobody knows: The movie is insane and so epic and is probably rated R — that’s one thing I think will happen, that it will be an R-rated version, for sure,” Snyder tells EW. “We haven’t heard from the MPAA, but that’s my gut.”
Asked for details about what makes the new footage explicit, Snyder reveals, “There’s one scene where Batman drops an F-bomb. Cyborg is not too happy with what’s going on with his life before he meets the Justice League, and he tends to speak his mind. And Steppenwolf is pretty much just hacking people in half. So [the rating would be due to] violence and profanity, probably both.”
I have to disagree with Snyder here, I think we all KNOW this cut is going to be insane and epic.
Snyder is so enthusiastic about this version of his film that he even hopes that Warner Bros will release it in theaters! “I’m a huge fan and a big supporter of the cinematic experience,” he says, “and we’re already talking about Justice League playing theatrically at the same time it’s coming to HBO Max. So weirdly, it’s the reverse [of the trend].”
Is he on crack? Getting people into theaters when it might make them sick is hard enough but getting enough of them in there for a turgid four-hour grimslog by the man behind Batman v. Superman? Oh and it’s R-rated. Tough sell. I know every fanboy wants to see this version of the film, but they want to see it lounging around at home under a comfy slanket.
Still, maybe WarnerMedia/AT&T will went to keep Snyder happy and do some kind of limited release. But I’m guessing they are more focused on getting more premium content for that danged streaming service of theirs.
What we do know or strongly surmise about The Snyder Cut Justice League thus far: it’s coming in 2021, it will be four hours long, and this new version will cost $70 million for new footage, VFX and post production. Extensive reshoots have been done, including the addition of Jared Leto’s Joker and Harry Lennix as Martian Manhunter. Amber Heard shot new scenes as Mera. Superman and Cyborg have bigger stories. Steppenwolf is scarier. Oh and tons more. Hit up any movie site and they’ll give you a daily report.
BTW, if you’re wondering, Batman will not be the first superhero to say f*ck. Robin went there first!
