In the end, we’re hoping to shine a spotlight on things you might not know you’d enjoy… and hope to offer a space for you to share what you are excited for this week.

Tackling ideas of pretension within craft and the cultures that grow around it, this has been a very entertaining and topical read.

THE BEAT SAYS // Normally, we wouldn’t talk too deep about a second issue of anything, but this series deserves special notice. Built like monthly roll playing adventure games of old, Rolled and Told mixes the storytelling elements of comics and gaming guides to be a wholly unique experience. What’s more, these are adventures built for the burgeoning Lumberjane set of humans, who have been itching for a bit more inclusivity in their gaming guides – and they are getting it in spades here.

THE PUBLISHER SAYS // In her first book of comic strips, Emma reflects on social and feminist issues by means of simple line drawings, dissecting the mental load, ie., all that invisible and unpaid organizing, list-making and planning women do to manage their lives, and the lives of their family members. In her strips Emma deals with themes ranging from maternity leave (it is not a vacation!), domestic violence, the clitoris, the violence of the medical world on women during childbirth, and other feminist issues, and she does so in a straightforward way that is both hilarious and deadly serious. If you’re not laughing, you’re probably crying in recognition.

THE BEAT SAYS // The more information like this that is available in wider ranges of formats, the better. Chances are, you’ve run across one or two of these strips online before, and they always contain vital information, both for the subject, and the folks who should be listening.

THE BEAT SAYS // Aftershock really leaves it all out on the field in their solicitations, so chances are we’re not going to say anything you didn’t already pick up from reading the above. That said, Steve Orlando’s creator owned work is always worth checking out, as the books always have something very interesting to say.
