Riverdale, a subversive present-day take on Archie and his gang produced by Greg Berlanti for The CW, has nabbed the first pair of its four leads.
Lili Reinhart (Surviving Jack) will be playing Betty Cooper, whom Deadline describes as:
…sweet, studious, eager-to-please and wholesome with a huge crush on her longtime best friend, Archie. Tired of being the perfect daughter, student, sister, etc., she turns to her new friend, Veronica, for life advice — much to the consternation of her emotionally brittle mother.
Reading like textbook Betty to my eyes.
Jughead Jones will be taken on by Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody). This version of Jughead is described as a “heart-throb with a philosophical bent” and apparently is no longer friends with Archie Andrews after a rift tore them apart.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote the pilot and is executive producer along with Berlanti.
