The CW’s Superman is getting a new look. Today’s premiere of a new promo image for the upcoming Superman & Lois series has revealed actor Tyler Hoechlin sporting the Man of Steel’s new costume. The network shared the image widely across the show’s social media channels.

Superman’s new costume bears a strong resemblance to the one that debuted as part of DC’s Rebirth initiative. Still trunks-less, the suit features a more muted yellow color compared to the previous suit, and a revamped cape with a more traditional connection to the suit around the character’s neck.

The previous super-suit featured a thicker, straight red belt, and large shoulder clasps for the cape. Earlier promo images for Superman & Lois still featured that suit, making the reveal of a new one today a bit of a surprise.

The latest entry in The CW’s always-expanding Arrowverse of series which includes (deep breath), The FlashSupergirlLegends of TomorrowBatwomanBlack Lightning, and in-development shows Wonder Girl and Naomi, the Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch-starring Superman & Lois will feature the couple balancing their careers as journalists (and, for one of them, a superhero) with the responsibilities of raising a pair of young sons.

The development of the show has not been without behind-the-scenes controversy, though. Last month writer Nadria Tucker tweeted that she’d been fired from the show for raising concerns about representation for women and people of color on the show, including “flagging #metoo jokes in dialogue, […] defending the Bechdel test, […] FIGHTING to ensure the only Black faces on screen aren’t villains, [… and] pitching stories for female characters (there’s one in the title of the series!) that went ignored.”

Superman & Lois is set for debut on The CW in February 2021.
