As previously announced, the official Greatest Band in the World, Tenacious D, is debuting a graphic novel this Fall, and we now have interior art, according to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter. The 180-page book entitled Post-Apocalypto (like the YouTube series and 2018 album) is co-written by comedians/musicians Jack Black and Kyle Gass, the founders of the comedic rock duo. Black will also illustrate, hand-drawing the whole book himself.

Tenacious D has been featured in both movies and television. They also have several albums of their comedic musical stylings, with songs such as “Wonderboy,” “Kielbasa,” and  “Dio,” a tribute to heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio.

The full-color graphic novel is yet another medium for Black and Gass to conquer. In the book, the band explores a post-apocalyptic hellscape and battles evil mutations in the wake of an atomic blast. They also visit space and the White House in an attempt to save the world.

Seattle’s Fantagraphics Books will publish the comic and also has plans for a streamable read-along audiobook version voiced by Gass and Black and featuring music by the band.

Tenacious D said in a statement, “When we finished this book there was only one publisher we ever really considered. Fantagraphics has been the shining beacon of creativity in comic books for decades. We are thrilled to release our magnum opus with the undisputed greatest and best comic book publisher in the world. Fantagraphics 4 life.”

Post-Apcalypto will be released in September. The hardcover will retail for $29.99. Check out some pages below.
