by Alexander Añé -- One of the hot topics in the comics industry is the movement into the digital medium, and of course the biggest question in that migration is, "what's it going to cost?" Sunday afternoon at San Diego Comic-Con, the leading voices in this debate came together to discuss this topic: Mark Waid representing Thrillbent, Scott Kurtz the creator of PvP, IDW Publishing's ePublishing director Jeff Webber, Chris Ross attending as Top Shelf's director of digital publications, and moderating the panel is comiXology's Chip Mosher.

This webcomics thing is heating up! Actually, what's heating up is that a new population of webcomics immigrants is moving to this new land and trying to learn the customs and shortcuts of the new society. And the natives—creators who came of age with the web as their native platform—are probably rolling their eyes and going on with business.

DAREDEVIL continues to be the superhero book that proves that "nice art" can be better than "house style" as Mike Allred takes over for an issue. Mark Waid continues to write.

Mark Waid's been threatening to go digital for quite some time. He's also had a history of exploring options outside of DC and Marvel. Waid spent some time at Crossgen, launched his creator-owned Empire with Barry Kitson over at Image under the tragically short-lived Gorilla imprint, did Hunter/Killer with Marc Silvestri for Top Cow and spent some time as E-I-C at BOOM!, where he launch a few books with Irredeemable as his flagship title. Now he's finally combining those longstanding threats and his independent work with "Thrillbent."

After three years in top management positions, Mark Waid is leaving his current position as COO at BOOM! Studios to go back to freelancing. He'll continue to write INCORRUPTIBLE and IRREDEEMABLE, his hit titles for BOOM!, and Stan Lee's THE TRAVELER. Editor-in-chief Matt Gagnon, who stopped into that position in July, will oversee BOOM!'s creative output. Waid spoke exclusively to CBR with his usual candor about the move, stressing that unlike his tenure at CrossGen, he was leaving on friendly terms.
