The Black Comic Book Festival, held at the Schomburg Center in Harlem, just has its 4th outing on Saturday and by all accounts it was jammed with people; as many as 5000 showed up,...
CON-solidation: how con fatigue is setting in
ICv2 has an interview with ReedPOP czar Lance Fensterman which covers a lot of growth items for NYCC (Hint: more venues not more days) and also the ongoing con saturation we're seeing:
Comic-Con may be staying in San Diego for now, but the Chargers want to...
This may sound peripheral to the whole "expand the SD convention center" saga, but the problems with the Chargers aging Qualcomm Stadium (built in 1967) is very much in the mix as far as local politics go. The Chargers have been begging for a new stadium for ages—apparently the one they've got is so old it doesn't even serve artisanal hot dogs.
Kibbles ‘n’ Bits 1/4/16: They stufffed HOW many people in a comic-con?
Comiket, the world's biggest comics event, shrank a bit at the just concluded winter fest Comiket 89. It only drew 520,000 people over its three day duration, down from 550,000 at Comiket 88 last summer. It's worth noting that this is daily attendance: about 150,000 actual humans actually showed up on day 1, 170,000 on day 2 and 200,000 on day 3. See, even Comiket does turnstile attendance!
When a con is crap: Panama City Beach Comic Con
We haven't had a crappy con tale in a while, but what happened at the Panama City Beach Comic Con in Florida seems to be a textbook case: the promoter (Greg Messick) announced a...
Layoffs and changes at Wizard World
Just a few days ago I was predicting some consolidation in the crowded convention business in 2016, and like clockwork I learned that there have been layoffs at the convention company Wizard World, following the most recent financial statements that revealed a slowdown in convention revenue. I reached out to a WW spokesman for confirmation and was told "We are working to run the shows as efficiently as possible."

Are there too many comic cons? Absolutely. Is there room for one more? Almost certainly. That's the paradox that I had on my mind as I went out to Edison, NJ for the debut...

New Jersey Comic Expo adds Cassaday and cosplayers AND helps kitty cats!
I'll be a guest at this weekend's New Jersey Comic Expo, returning to my homeland for a roots journey deep into Middlesex County, so consider this a bit of hype. They've already added Jim Lee, Adam Kubert and Garth Ennis as guests, and now John Cassaday will also be there. None of these guys do many shows, and with NJCE being a smaller show it's a great chance to meet some of your faves.
Adam Kubert and Jim Lee join the New Jersey Comic Expo
The New Jersey Comic Expo is ramping up it's guest list adding local boy Adam Kubert to the mix. (Jim Lee was also announced a week or so ago.) Kubert will appear as part of two panels spotlighting the Kubert School:
