The publisher behind Spain’s translated DC Comics publications, ECC Ediciones, has enlisted some of the biggest names in the country’s comics scene to create a series of illustrations celebrating the real heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic, called Heroes Always Come Home. As part of the project, Spanish comics creator David Rubín (Sherlock Frankenstein, Ether) has released a free digital comic titled El superpoder más importante: una historia de Superman, Krypto y tu vecina (English translation: The Most Important Superpower: A Story of Superman, Krypto, and Your Neighbor).
Joining Rubín are creators Mikel Janín, Jesús Merino, and Paco Roca, all possessing unique art styles that have set them on a league of their own. Their contributions consist of illustrated cards featuring iconic DC superheroes alongside essential workers such as nurses and first responders.
The free Superman comic, which will also be available for free in print in all of Spain’s comic book shops along with the cards as soon as they can safely open their doors, is available online now and it is an absolute treat.
Without saying much, it focuses on how important a role communities play when taking into account an essential worker’s physical presence among its people. It’s a work of admiration but also of understanding, with lessons and demands for the reader as well. Essential workers have become a special kind of people that are shattering definitions and forms of heroism in the face of the pandemic. Rubín is trying to give them the visibility they deserve with his comic.

Los héroes siempre vuelven en este cómic gratis de David Rubín sobre SUPERMAN en la pandemia
ECC Ediciones, la publicadora española que se encarga de traducir los comics de DC al español, ha enlistado algunos de los creadores más importantes de España para crear una serie de ilustraciones que celebran a los héroes reales de la pandemia COVID-19.
Como parte del proyecto, el creador de comics español David Rubín (Sherlock Frankenstein, Ether) ha lanzado un cómic gratis en formato digital titulado El superpoder más importante: una historia de Superman, Krypto y tu vecina.
Entre los creadores de comics que se unen a Rubín se encuentran Mikel Janín, Jesús Merino y Paco Roca. Cada uno posee un estilo visual único digno de su propia categoría. Sus contribuciones consisten en una serie de láminas o cartas que muestran a trabajadores esenciales acompañados por algunos de los héroes más icónicos del mundo de DC.
El cómic gratis de Superman, que será hecho disponible de forma impresa en todas las tiendas de comics españolas tan pronto puedan abrir sus puertas, ya está disponible en línea y es una maravilla. Las cartas o láminas de Roca, Janín y Merino también serán ofrecidas de forma gratuita junto al cómic.
Sin revelar mucho sobre el cómic, la historia se enfoca en la importancia de las comunidades al tomar en consideración de la presencia física de un trabajador esencial entre su gente. Es una obra que admira al trabajador pidiendo también pide que se le entienda.
El cómic también contiene lecciones y exigencias para el lector. El trabajodor esencial se ha convertido en un tipo de persona excepcional que ha redefinido lo que es el heroísmo en sus varias formas en tiempos de pandemia. Rubín solo intenta darles la visibilidad que se merecen por medio de su cómic.
