Hey there! We’re back and ready for more action! In fact, we’re ready for, possibly, MORE ACTION THAN EVER BEFORE! That’s how rested up we feel. Roawwwwr! Look out world! If all goes as planned, we’ll be rolling out some exciting new features here at Stately Beat Manor™ over the next few weeks…and if it doesn’t go as planned? Oh, well.

In the meantime, please, faithful readers, we can’t do it without YOU. We couldn’t do this blog without our commenters, tipsters, and regular correspondents. Don’t stop now! The best is yet to come!

200905191040In the meantime, summer is rolling in like a thunderhead, with conventions, concerts, confabs, and tons of other events. In fact, here’s one we’ll be participating in ourselves, the Bryant Park Reading Room Word for Word series, which spotlights local authors. We’ll be part of a panel on August 19th:

Wednesday, August 19, 2009
Graphic Novels and Comics from Every Angle
Moderated by Danny Fingeroth, Rough Guide to Graphic Novels
Chip Kidd, Bat-Manga!: The Secret History of Batman in Japan
David Mazzucchelli, Asterios Polyp
Heidi MacDonald, Co-editor of PW Comics Week and “The Beat” blog for Publishers Weekly

The Bryant Park Reading Room is located on the 42nd Street side of the park under the trees and umbrellas. The rain venue for the season is the Library of the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen, located at 20 W. 44th St., between 5th and 6th avenues. All events run from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. and all are sponsored by HSBC Bank USA, N.A.

If you’re out and about and brown bagging it, stop on by. At the very least, hearing David Mazzucchelli talk about his amazing ASTERIOS POLYP should be a very rare experience.

  1. Well, let’s just hope that ASTERIOS POLYP’s release doesn’t get delayed AGAIN. A few days ago I got my umpteenth notice from Amazon.com that it has been again pushed back, this time for July.

  2. The Bryant Park event on Aug. 19th sound great, I will be there. I read an early edition for review of the amazing ASTERIOS POLYP book and I think it’ll be a big hit when it finally arrives in stores.
