Last month, as part of their “Trinity of Evil” announcement, DC Comics teased the March launch of a new Suicide Squad series, Suicide Squad: Dream Team. Today the publisher has officially unveiled full details about the series, which will be written by Nicole Maines, pencilled by Eddy Barrows, and inked by Eber Ferreira. No additional members of the creative team were mentioned in the announcement of the series, which will find Dreamer Nia Nal heading up a new version of the Suicide Squad, as always under the direction of Amanda Waller.

Here’s how DC describes Suicide Squad: Dream Team, including the full team lineup:

To Amanda Waller, metahumans are the greatest threat to world safety, and she isn’t above ruthlessly using them to solve that problem. Waller sees Dreamer, DC’s precog/dream-walking Super Hero, as a key piece in eliminating that threat, recruiting her for this latest version of the Suicide Squad, complete with some of the most dangerous Super-Villains the DC Universe has to offer: Harley Quinn, Bizarro, Clock King, Black Alice, and Deadeye.

Is Harley Quinn still considered a supervillain? She’s been on the straight and narrow for almost four years now. And will she have time for both the Suicide Squad and the Birds of Prey? Maybe the ability to appear in multiple places at once is her secret superpower.

Readers have already gotten a glimpse of what Amanda Waller has in store for Dreamer. This week’s Action Comics included a Dreamer story by Maines, Steve Orlando, and Fico Ossio that saw Waller blackmail Dreamer into completing a mission against another, rogue pre-cog.

In a statement announcing the series, Maines expressed her enthusiasm at working on a series so important to the overall Dawn of DC:

“I’m really excited to be working with Eddy and Eber to bring Dreamer into this pivotal time in the DC Universe,” said Maines. “This is a very different space from what she’s used to, and where we’re used to seeing her; dealing with Amanda Waller and this new Suicide Squad is going to force her to decide what kind of hero she wants to be, and what she is willing to sacrifice to save the future.”

Suicide Squad: Dream Team is the latest comics work from actor/activist Nicole Maines, and continues her relationship with Dreamer, a character she played for three seasons on The CW’s Supergirl. Maines’s first original graphic novel, Bad Dreams: A Dreamer Story with artist Rye Hickman, is due out in April 2024.
