Next month Dark Horse Comics will release Spy Superb, the first issue of a new three-issue miniseries from cartoonist Matt Kindt. The series follows a spy who is completely unaware that he’s a spy. Now ahead of the issue’s first release, The Beat is pleased to exclusively reveal a variant cover for the series’ February-shipping second issue by artist Brian Hurtt.

Here’s how Dark Horse describes Spy Superb #2:

Jay is the perfect spy. A spy so perfect he doesn’t even realize he is a spy and that he’s on a mission. Until he finds himself in the middle of a bunch of dead agents and on the run. Taking everything he’s ever learned from watching spy movies he sets off on a mission to rescue a beautiful woman—who may also be a spy out to get him—and obtain the secret contents of her phone.

Hurtt’s variant for Spy Superb #2 joins a stellar lineup of variants for the series’ first issue, including art by Martin SimmondsTula Lotay, and Christian Ward. Each issue of the series will also sport a “paper bag” variant cover in keeping with the secretive nature of the story. The series, the latest from Kindt’s curated Flux House imprint at Dark Horse, has already been lauded by a number of Kindt’s fellow comics creators, including Patton Oswalt, who called the book “a funny, nasty meditation on the spy genre.”

Check out Hurtt’s cover to the second issue, as well as all the covers and an interior preview of Spy Superb #1 below. The series debuts in print and digitally on Wednesday, January 11th, with the second issue following on February 8th.
