Via Variety, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have announced the show has been renamed South America ahead of its next season, in reference to President Donald Trump‘s decision to “rename” Lake Ontario Lake America. The pair said in a statement, “Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to South America. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount — a Skydance Capitulation.”

The move comes after South Park won this year’s Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the season 27 premiere “Sermon on the ‘Mount,” which saw the creators attack Trump, 80, after his reelection with a renewed zeal, depicting him as Satan’s new boyfriend, among other things.

Prior to the decision to officially refer to Lake Ontario as Lake America (which stemmed from a trade dispute with Canada), Trump had his administration declare the Gulf of Mexico is now called the Gulf of America, and Google and Apple had similarly changed its name on their map apps. He has also recently shared a video suggesting he’ll rename New Mexico New America.

Stone and Parker’s announcement also takes a swipe at Comedy Central’s owner Paramount, and its new leadership following the Skydance merger. Paramount CEO David Ellison has previously praised the pair, describing them as “always” having been “equal opportunity offenders,” while the creators have said, “People think certain things [referring to the cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert], but they’re letting us do whatever we want, to their credit.”

South Park/South America season 29 will premiere on Comedy Central on Wednesday, September 16, at 10pm ET/PT. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on Paramount+. The show will mark the 30th anniversary of its premiere on August 13, 2027.
