2020, 2021… what’s the difference? Either way, thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (which still continues unabated in the United States, with some truly horrifying holiday numbers), we’ll be safely inside Stately Beat Manor, reading, and it’s in that spirit that we bring you Weekend Reading 41.
What books do you have planned for your weekend reading as we head into the New Year? We hope you’ll let us know in the comment section!
AVERY KAPLAN: For the first weekend in 2021, I’ll be reading the 2013 run of Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Mike Norton, Stephen Thompson, Kris Anka, Matthew Wilson, plus a whole bunch of artists on the two final issues.
JOE GRUNENWALD: I don’t make resolutions, but one of my goals for 2021 is to stay on top of my to-read pile (or, rather, dig out from under it). I’ve been banking the final few issues of Gideon Falls by Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino, and Dave Stewart to read all at once, so I’ll be doing that, as well as reading the handful of other single-issues that I’ve bought and not yet read, before I dive into graphic novels like The Seeds by Ann Nocenti and David Aja, The Cloven by Garth Stein and Matthew Southworth, and many, many more.
TAIMUR DAR: Like many, my introduction to Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo was through the Ninja Turtles cartoon. I jumped on board when it started being published through IDW and was hooked. Much like Joe, one of my own goals is to read Saki’s original Usagi Yojimbo stories. With the upcoming Netflix CGI animated Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles that appears to take cues from his Space Usagi stories, I’m reading The Usagi Yojimbo Saga: Legends collection first.
