Now is the winter of our Weekend Reading 139! December has arrived, but like every other month of the year, that just means it’s reading season here at Stately Beat Manor.

What are you going to be paging through this weekend? Let The Beat know, right here in the comment section or over on social media @comicsbeat.

Weekend Reading 139
Weekend Reading 139: Archie Meets Batman ’66.

AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend, I’m reading some random issues of Archie, each of them signed by Dan Parent. Archie Meets Batman #3 – 6, here I come! Then, as far as prose, I’ll be checking out The Martian Child: A Novel About a Single Father Adopting a Son by David Gerrold, best known in some circles for writing the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “The Trouble with Tribbles.”

Weekend Reading 139
Weekend Reading 139: Trent.

DEAN SIMONS: Still reading the bande dessinée mountie series Trent (published by Cinebook in English). Up to volume 3 – When The Lamps Are Lit. While Rodolphe’s writing is fine, the selling point remains the incredible art of Leo. Really makes the series stand out some-three decades since its original publication. Meanwhile – as it is now December – my main reading objective is to finish off anything unfinished before we hit 2023. Because of this, I am trying to get through all the short fiction bits and bobs I have in my prose stack – starting with the Black Stars stories, Nnedi Okorafor’s The Black Pages and Nisi Shawl’s 2043, A Merman I Should Turn To Be. Sounds like a good weekend of reading (if I actually have time to).

Weekend Reading 136
Weekend Reading 136: The Invisible.

TAIMUR DAR: For the longest time Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles has been on my list to read. So I thought I’d rectify that by starting with the first volume Vol. 1: Say You Want a Revolution. Meanwhile I’ve finally been making a dent into my new comics read pile. Near the top are the first two issues of the Miracleman Man Silver Age by Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham literally years in the making.
