AVERY KAPLAN: After the character appeared in this week’s Midnight Suns #1, I’m checking out the origins of Ghost Rider in Ghost Rider: Epic Collection Vol. 1: Hell on Wheels. The collection includes several issues of Marvel Spotlight, the first 11 issues of the 1973 Ghost Rider solo series, and an issue of Marvel Team-Up. While there are dozens of creators involved in all of these issues, the five listed on the cover are Gary Friedrich, Tony Isabella, Mike Ploog, Tom Sutton, and Jim Mooney.
DEAN SIMONS: Here in the UK it is technically an impromptu long weekend on account of a certain Royal Funeral and EVERYWHERE seemingly shutting down on Monday. So clearly I need plenty of reading material. My main read will be the rest of Part 1, Vol.3 of Hirohiko Araki’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The rest I…still haven’t figured out yet.
TAIMUR DAR: While Marvel’s attempts to make Inhumans the “next big thing” didn’t quite succeed, there were some gems such as the Black Bolt series by Saladin Ahmed and Christian Ward. I’ve heard universal praise about it and it’s been on my list to read for a long while. It’s available digitally through the libby app so I’m going to check out Black Bolt Vol 1: Hard Time this weekend. And if I dig it, I’ll likely move onto the second volume.
REBECCA OLIVER KAPLAN: I just read Dean Simon’s entry and believe I should also take a long weekend on account of a certain Royal Funeral, because after watching Diana (The Musical) on Netflix, my eyeholes need a day off to recover from all of the bad Chanel knock offs. Click, snap. Click, snap. So I am going to celebrate some ALL-AMERICAN comix with James Strum’s America: God, Gold, and Golems, which I bought from the Spruce Grove Public Library, which is coincidentally not in the US, but Alberta, Canada. I’m also reading Marvel’s Marauders by Gerry Duggan, Matteo Lolli, Michele Bandini, Lucas Werneck, and more, and finishing Stacked Deck Press’s We’re Still Here anthology, edited by Tara Madison Avery and Jeanne Thornton (technically this is work, but that’s a-okay).
