Marvel Studios has suspended production on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings due to the worsening global coronavirus outbreak, according to a report from THR. The film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, has also placed himself under temporary quarantine on the recommendation of a doctor. Cretton, who has a newborn child, is isolating himself until results of a COVID-19 test can come back.

Additionally, production on The CW’s The Flash has been shut down “until further notice” as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Deadline reports that unit manager Brent Crowell made the announcement to the show’s cast and crew today.

Filming on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is taking place in Australia, where the number of confirmed coronavirus cases is still fairly low. Production on a Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis Presley biopic, also taking place down under, has already been halted after actor Tom Hanks was diagnosed with the virus.

The Flash films in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Archie Comics-based CW teen drama Riverdale also films there. That show’s production was suspended yesterday after a crew member was found to have been in contact with someone who was later diagnosed with coronavirus.

The shutdowns of Shang-Chi and The Flash are the latest impacts to the entertainment industry due to the coronavirus. The global pandemic has caused dozens of TV shows to halt production and seen the release dates of numerous films including MulanA Quiet Place 2, and the already long-delayed The New Mutants pushed back.
