The second big announcement at Kevin Feige‘s Marvel Studios Hall H panel was some casting for the planned “Master of Kung Fu” movie called Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings. In other words… they’ve found their Shang-Chi!
It is Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu who came out to greet the rabid fans. Liu appeared in the short-lived Taken television series but hasn’t appeared in any prominent films of note… at least until now.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) came out to make the announcement as well as announcing Chinese acting legend Tony Leung to play the Mandarin and that breakout star Awkwafina will also have a role.
It makes sense that Marvel will finally get back to the 10 Rings storyline that was first mentioned in the first Iron Man movie as well as finally making up for the joke of a Mandarin in Iron Man 3. (Sorry, Sir Ben. I do love you otherwise.)
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings is slated for 2021, although Feige didn’t specify which date.
