Marvel’s Ultimates Panel is currently underway, and has kicked off with news of the ‘Hunger’ storyline and where it’s leading the Ultimate Universe – to ‘Cataclysm’.

Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley are the creative team for this five issue miniseries, which has the definite feeling of being a finale for the Ultimate Universe as a whole. The storyline will see the 616 Galactus – who was pushed into the Ultimate Universe by Age of Ultron – descend upon Earth for a final reckoning. It appears as though the storyline will mainly focus on the Ultimates to begin with, although then it’ll start to focus in on Miles Morales heavily as the story moves forwards.

It’s not confirmed as being the end of the Ultimate Universe, but I mean… Galactus is EATING THE EARTH. That’s going to be difficult to continue on from. Bagley will be able to pencil both Cataclysm and remain the ongoing artist for Fantastic Four, according to Bendis.

According to Andrew Wheeler, it was quite a fractious panel, with many fans voicing their displeasure at the Age of Ultron event which set this new Ultimate Universe storyline into motion.

This does lead the question of ‘What is Hunger about, then?’, as the Joshua Hale Fialkov-helmed miniseries was also going to show us Galactus against Earth. It looks now like the storyline will focus more on Galactus as he JOURNEYS to Earth, and his thoughts and perspective on the Universe as he makes his slow way towards our (their) planet. Fialkov mentioned that the series will see characters like Silver Surfer and Captain Marvel appear, which seems to back up that theory.

There was also an update on Ultimate Spider-Man at the panel, with a new cover teasing an upcoming storyline with Miles, Spider-Woman, and Dagger all heading into chemical-based troubles. Miles Morales hasn’t been wearing the Spider-Man costume for a year in-story, due to a personal tragedy. This will see him return to the identity as he heads into a collision with the Roxxon corporation.

And Ultimate X-Men (my favourite ultimate title – and possibly the best X-Men one in general right now) wasn’t ignored either. New covers were unveiled, one of which seemed to reveal the return of Wolverine to the series… at the expense of one Kitty Pryde…
