At the “Image Comics: Artists Unleashed” panel on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con, Sanford Greene made a surprise announcement: Bitter Root – Black & White, which puts new spin on the iconic series from Greene, Chuck Brown, and David F. Walker.
During his portion of the panel, Greene revealed work-in-progress preview art from Black & White: “For the presentation, I was supposed to send one image but instead I sent in two, which weren’t finished.”
He revealed that he was encouraged to pursue the project by Daniel Warren Johnson, who was also on the panel—and looked quite pleased with the credit.
“Truth be told, Johnson got me excited for this. We were talking about this a year ago, like who would buy a black and white reprint of the first volume. Then Daniel put out Do a Power Bomb Black and White, and it did what it did, and I was just like doggone it,” Greene told the audience.
“Basically it’s going to be the reorientation of the first volume,” Greene explained. “The first volume is issues 1-3, while volume 2 is issues 3-5 with an added short story.”

Image has not released details for Bitter Root: Black & White beyond what Greene provided at Friday’s panel, but the announcement got a massive cheer from the audience and reactions on social media have been equally excited.
