Friday’s Lanterns panel at San Diego Comic-Con was filled with seven exclusive sneak-peeks at scenes from the upcoming HBO Max series, as well as a trailer.
Audience members learned that John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) is being trained by Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) to operate as his backup in the event anything should happen to him. But what’s clear is there are various intergalactic forces behind the scenes infiltrating Earth, all while Jordan seems to be battling personal demons of his own.

Surprise guest Nathan Fillion joined the panel to tease his appearance in the show. Shortly after the extra scenes were previewed, the panelists revealed that actress Laura Linney will play one of the Guardians in the show, eliciting excitement from the crowd.
Lanterns will premiere on HBO Max on August 16.
