Fantasy will take over streaming services on August 30, 2019. In addition to the Netflix release of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Amazon Prime Video is also slated to release the urban fantasy series Carnival Row, starring Orlando Bloom as Rycroft Philostrate, a human, and Cara Delevingne as Vignette Stonemoss, a faerie. On Friday, Amazon debuted dual trailers for the series at San Diego Comic-Con, where there is also an activation that attendees can explore. Each trailer gives insight into the two protagonists, providing insight to their violent, Victorian-inspired world.

Naturally, Bloom and Delevingne play star-crossed lovers in this world, where fantasy creatures are forced to live alongside humans after their homelands are destroyed. Some of the creatures have chosen to assimilate as well as they can, as a survival tactic more than anything; however, as the trailers reveal, violence is still rampant as racial tensions rise. Carnival Row follows Rycroft and Vignette as they team up to investigate a string of murders that threaten the delicate balance between their species, while the world rages on around them.

The trailers released Friday dig into the characters’ histories, particularly in regards to each other, while also providing first looks at some of the other cast. Carnival Row also stars David Gyasi as the mysteriously wealthy faun Argeus; Karla Crome as the faerie poet Tourmaline; Indira Varma as powerful family matriarch Piety Breakspear; and Tamzin Merchant as the aristocratic Imogen Spurnose.

Pacific Rim‘s Travis Beacham is co-executive producing alongside Mark Guggenheim (Arrow) and Rene Echevarria (Teen Wolf, Castle). The fantasy series is based on Beacham’s 2005 story A Killing on Carnival Row.
