Mad Cave Studios has announced Satanic Panic, a four-issue horror series by writer Matt Miner (Young Men in Love), artist Clayton McCormack (Batman: White Knight Presents – Generation Joker), colorist Oliver Mertz, and letterer Matt Krotzer. Set at the height of the titular moral panic in the 1980s, the book follows three outcasts in a small town, who become the prime suspects when a serial killer descends on the town.
The official synopsis tells us, “Join D&D geeks and Ozzy [Osbourne] enthusiasts Naz, Sal, and Terry as they race to clear their names, survive an increasingly blood-soaked town, and unmask the real killer before paranoia claims more innocent lives. But in a community eager to blame the weird kids, proving their innocence may be deadlier than facing the murderer.”
Miner comments, “Growing up, my mom was caught up in the religious hysteria centered around heavy metal and D&D, she burned my Ozzy tapes, my gaming stuff, all of it – so it’s nice to tell a story highlighting just how stupid that all was.”
Issue #1 will be released in time for Halloween on October 28, with a main cover by McCormack, and a variant by Justin Coffee. The latter, which you can check out below, will also be available as a foil cover (cover C), and with glow-in-the-dark paper (cover D).
