During ComicCon@Home last summer, fans got a first look at the highly anticipated Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles animated series based on creator Stan Sakai‘s iconic sword-wielding rabbit, Usagi Yojimbo, from Netflix and Gaumont Animation. Today Netflix announced that the animated series will be debuting on the streaming service next month on April 28.

Here’s how Netflix describes the animated series:

Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles follows the teenage rabbit, Samurai Yuichi, descendent of the great warrior Miyamoto Usagi, on his epic quest to become a true samurai. But he isn’t alone! He leads a ragtag team of misfit heroes — including a roguish bounty hunter, a cunning ninja, an acrobatic pickpocket and a faithful pet lizard — as he battles depth-charging moles, metal-tipped winged bats, and monsters from another dimension, all in the pursuit to become the best Samurai Usagi!

Ten episodes are scheduled for the first season.

While this CG animated series will focus on his descendant, as revealed in the aforementioned ComicCon@Home panel Miyamoti Usagi will be appear in sequences rendered in 2D.

The voice cast includes Darren Barnet as Yuichi Usagi, Shelby Rabara as Kitsune, Aleks Le as Gen, and Mallory Low as Chizu.

  1. I had no idea this was happening! I am beyond excited. I came to Usagi later in life and have been reading a ton of it to catch up.
