Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike has come to an end, actors can finally get back to filming much-anticipated projects as well as promote them. That’s good news for the upcoming Deadpool 3 film which will feature Ryan Reynolds not only return as the Merc with a Mouth but also Hugh Jackman reprising his iconic role of Wolverine in a comic accurate costume. Originally scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 3, it’s more than likely the release will have to be rescheduled due to the aforementioned SAG strike. Less than a day after the end of the SAG strike, Reynolds took to social media to tease a new addition to the Deadpool 3 cast, Dogpool!

If you’re a comic fan, you likely know that Dogpool is a member of the multiversal Deadpool Corps. Once a dog known as Wilson, Dogpool was an animal test subject for Mascara X. Deemed a failure, the lab owners tossed him into a dumpster not realizing Wilson had gained the ability to heal from any wound. Eventually discovered by the circus, Wilson became the starring attraction known as the the Death Defying Hound, Deadpool! It wasn’t long before the 616 Deadpool made his way to Wilson’s dimension and recruited him into the Deadpool Corps.

It goes without saying that changes are always bound to happen with any comic book adaptation. Case in point, changing the breed for Dogpool. We’ll have to wait and see how much if any of the character’s multiversal origins will play into the film or if it’s just a random dog that Deadpool finds and adopts in the film. Given the film (and the MCU in general) is fully embracing the concept of the multiverse, it’s still possible not only will Dogpool be from another but we may in fact we see a full Deadpool Corps. A fan can dream!
