The CW has released, via THR, a first look image at their new Batwoman. The image features actress Ruby Rose in Kate Kane’s full costume:
The suit was designed by Colleen Atwood, who has also designed costumes for Supergirl, Arrow, and The Flash. The design makes some alterations to the character’s comic book look as designed by Alex Ross, including omitting the red gloves and boots, and altering the belt to be less stylized. The red inside of the cape is also muted and minimized, but the effect looks good. I’m personally most heartened to see how pale Rose looks under the mask, as Kate Kane’s chalky white skin is, in my opinion, a defining physical characteristic of the character.
Batwoman is set to make her television debut in this year’s CW “Arrowverse” crossover between The Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow. Titled “Elseworlds,” the three-night event begins on December 9th, and will also feature the Arrowverse return of Superman, as well as debut of Lois Lane and The Monitor. A Batwoman solo TV series is also being developed by Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti.
Alex Ross? I thought it was JH WIlliams III – or he at least altered the original 52 series design to make it practical.

Whoops I was wrong, Alex Ross did create it for 52. It just didn’t cement in my mind until JH WIlliams was on it.
