I repeat, Robert Pattinson fights an Octopus in The Lighthouse, and it’s in the trailer!

The Lighthouse is the latest from Robert Eggers, whose The Witch, or The VVitch if you will, was one of the early entries in the current phase of auteurist horror that we’re experiencing (an era that includes work like The Babadook, It Follows, and Hereditary). While his colleagues like Jennifer Kent and David Robert Mitchell have opted to veer into other genres with their follow-ups, Eggers is still coloring within the lines of horror…though in black and white this time around.

His new film stars Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as a pair of lighthouse keepers on a New England island in the 1890’s where after a few weeks of being on the job, Pattinson’s character begins to lose his grip on his sanity. Just from the trailer alone, you can get a sense of the kind of atmospherics that Eggers is aiming for, almost expressionistic in that sort of Universal Horror vein. Check out the first trailer for The Lighthouse below:

I loved The Witch, I love both of these stars, and I love weird horror films. So this feels like it’ll be right up my alley. Hopefully yours too when it comes out on October 18th, just in time for Halloween movie season. It debuted at Cannes to raves, I can’t wait.

Peak Pattinson continues and he’s got a Nolan movie coming next right after this!

  1. This trailer does not explain any kind of plot points. Two guys in a light house? In black and white? This has art house movie written all over it meaning it will play one theater per major city, if that.
