Rob Liefeld’s still got it. Major X #1, the debut issue of the six-issue miniseries written and featuring covers by the Deadpool co-creator, doesn’t hit stores until next Wednesday, but Marvel has announced that the issue has already sold out at the distributor. If you’re not able to get a copy on Wednesday, though, don’t worry, as a second printing is coming with a new Liefeld cover featuring an unmasked look at the titular character.
Here’s how Liefeld described the series, and the new character, back when the title was announced:
“Major X introduces a new character who is certain to mix up everything in the X-world. He hails from another existence, which is called the ‘X-istence’ — a mutant Shangri-La, a safe haven that has been a realm where mutant kind has lived in peace and harmony. They escaped there following a tragedy that befell mutant kind, and built this community…but then a terrible event happens within the X-istence that causes Major X to cross over and land in the Marvel Universe that we know.”
Liefeld will share art duties on Major X with Whilce Portacio and Brett Peeples, with Liefeld drawing issues 1 and 6 and Portacio and Peeples on issues 2 through 5.
Love or hate his work, the strength of Liefeld’s name and his devoted fanbase still moves books. Whether this latest sellout is the result of renewed interest in the artist or speculation about Major X being the next Deadpool-like breakout character is anyone’s guess.

Pass. What year is this, 1992? Don’t think so.
Knowing the average fanboy’s level of taste and maturity, I’m not surprised that this is a hit.
If it’s sold out already before it comes out it tells you that the print number was way low to begin with and they printed just to order with no overages. I wouldn’t steal this turd off the internet. Liefeld can’t draw and he sure as hell can’t write. But the way Marvel is doing variant covers, it is like 1994 right before the industry crashed.
