Rick Remender is getting a lot of press these days for his part in the Marvel Now! relaunch with Uncanny Avengers and Captain America.  That’s not the only thing he’s up to, however.  Remender has a long history of doing creator-owned science fiction and horror.  Titles like Fear Agent and Sea of Red.  Remender is launching another project in his old milieu, a title called Devolution over at Dynamite.

Remender has written for Dynamite before, but it’s been awhile.  Back in 2006 Remender wrote a few issues of Battlestar Galactica (the TV version about to be relaunched).  He also wrote the Red Sonja: Vacant Shell one shot with Paul Renaud on art.  Guess what?  Paul Renaud is the artist on Devolution, which concerns the “last tribe of humans inoculated from the devolution agent as they set out on a desperate journey to try to find a way to re-evolve life on Earth.”

So it sounds like Remender has his Fear Agent hat back on.

DYNAMITE SIGNS RICK REMENDER!

THE HOTTEST WRITER IN COMIC WRITES DEVOLUTION WITH ACCLAIMED ARTIST PAUL RENAUD!

October 14th, 2012, Mt. Laurel, NJ – Dynamite is proud to announce that Uncanny Avengers artist Rick Remender, is writing for Dynamite.  Hot on the heels of the biggest series launch of his career with Uncanny Avengers from Marvel, as well as the beginning of his upcoming run on Captain America, Rick Remender’s Devolution series is a must-read for all of his fans.  Coupled with the breathtaking art of Paul Renaud, Devolution promises to be one of the most unique and innovative comics to be on the stands!

“DEVOLUTION is a return to the pulp/grindhouse science fiction I built my career on starting with FEAR AGENT (and that’s also infused VENOM, SECRET AVENGERS, and UNCANNY X-FORCE),” says writer Rick Remender.  “I came up with DEVOLUTION around the same time as FEAR AGENT and it’s been percolating for years. It’s incredibly fulfilling finally to be able to dive in with super talent Paul Renaud.  He’s a tremendously gifted and intelligent collaborator.  I wouldn’t have done the series without Paul and I appreciate Nick and Dynamite being so patient while we waited for the planets-and schedules-to align and make this project possible.  Joining us will be my FEAR AGENT colorist Lee Loughridge and letterer Rus Wooton, longtime friends and collaborators who I respect and trust.  I’m also blown away by the artists Nick has lined up for the covers as well, ranging, in alphabetical order, from Jae Lee to Alex Ross to Ryan Sook:  The series will be loaded with A-list talent.  We’ve got a very exciting story to tell with a heavy dose of high-octane action, character drama, a world of strange reverse mutations, and social commentary as we follow the last tribe of humans inoculated from the devolution agent as they set out on a desperate journey to try to find a way to re-evolve life on Earth.”

“Devolution is a dream project Rick Remender and I have been talking about for five years or so now,” says Devolution artist Paul Renaud.  “From our early talks about our mutual love for the EC comics and adventure comics of the 50’s, it grew into a larger template where we could actually show the whole world as an hostile deadly force. As such it has become the major player in the story. After more than two hundred covers for more comics than I could name, I finally told Nick Barrucci I was really into going back to drawing a book, and doing that with Rick is exactly what I needed. Nick and Dynamite had been very excited about doing that project from the start many moons ago, and he’s played a major role into setting the whole thing in motion. We all knew such a book would require the best of us, and making this happening now is just a blast.”

“In the long, unwritten history of Dynamite, one thing to note is that it was Rick Remender himself that introduced us to Paul’s work – the pair put together a fine Sonja one-shot for us called Vacant Shell,” adds Dynamite Editor Joe Rybandt.  “And now here we are, working with the pair of them again, each at the top of their game and Rick at the top of the charts with his marvel work.”

“Devolution is one of the most important series that we are launching next year.  It’s been about 5 years in the making, with discussions beginning shortly after Rick and Paul worked on a fantastic Red Sonja One Shot entitled Vacant Shell.  It’s taken a bit, and with Rick and Paul just getting better and better as story tellers, I can confidently say that it’s absolutely work the wait.  Rick’s story is incredible, and Paul’s art is nothing short of fantastic.  It’s truly gratifying to be able to show the series to the world.  And announcing as Rick’s Uncanny Avengers #1 is hitting, with the reported 300,000 in sales, helps bring more attention to a great project.  I can’t be more excited about this series! and honored to be working with Rick, Paul and the entire team.” States Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci.

  1. This is the only title that could made me come back to Dynamtite to pick one of their titles. I grew so tired of their never ending way to spin off endlessly their titles. Who want to buy 3 Warlord of Mars titles?!
I’ll be here for this beacuse Remender has never been bette than on creator owned titles and because those pages of Paul look really great and because I’m preatty sure they have somethign in their contract that will not allow Dynamite to make spin off out of their serie.

  2. And Brandon is commenting a thread he hasn’t read at all. This Jae Lee clone is Jae Lee, surprising, isn’t it?
