Unfortunately, the previously announced Superman: Red Son NYC premiere has been canceled to help minimize risk of exposure of the cornavirus. Never fear, the animated adaptation of the acclaimed Elseworlds storyline from writer Mark Millar and artists Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett is already available digitally, and for those brave enough to venture outside the Blu-ray/DVD hits shelves March 17. In anticipation, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new Red Son clip of. Batman (sporting an ushanka) take on a squadron of helicopters. In any universe, you never mess with the Dark Knight.

As Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Soviet Batman, related to The Beat at the Los Angeles premiere.

“With this version of Batman, there’s still elements of the Batman we know and love,” Smith said. “But there’s also this, ‘woo, I don’t know if I like this guy. I don’t know that he’s doing the things he should be doing but he’s doing it for the reasons that he feels are right and just,’ so that’s an element of Batman that I’m familiar with.”

Smith emphasized how uncanny the experience of seeing such an interpretation of Batman can prove to be: “We’re given this brief little window when we’re exposed to this early on, where we go, ‘oh yeah, that’s Batman, he’s this guy, this is what he does.’ Then all of a sudden you put it in another world and you’re like… Yeah, but imagine you’re the other people who Batman’s doing this to, maybe you don’t like that guy as much.”

What if the Man of Steel was raised behind the Iron Curtain? So begins DC’s acclaimed Elseworlds story, Superman: Red Son, the next entry in the popular series of DC Universe Movies. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the feature-length animated film arrives – along with a new DC Showcase animated short, Phantom Stranger – from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital starting February 25, 2020, and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack on March 17, 2020.

Based on DC’s famed Elseworlds tale from 2003, Superman: Red Son takes place in an alternate reality where the spaceship bearing the last survivor of Krypton crash lands – not in rural Kansas, but in Stalinist Russia. Can this Cold War-era Earth survive the coming of a Soviet Superman?

Superman: Red Son is produced and directed by Sam Liu (Reign of the Supermen) from a script by J.M. DeMatteis (Batman: Bad Blood, Constantine: City of Demons). Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) is co-producer. Amy McKenna (The Death of Superman) is producer. Executive Producers are Sam Register and Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series).

  1. If I have one complaint about the clips, it’s that the museum clip was too spoilery, spoiling a major plot point.
