Today, Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed the first charges in his probe of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 US Presidential election. Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and a top aide, Rick Gates, were charged with, among other things, “conspiracy against the United States.” Additionally, a former Trump campaign aide, George Papadopoulos, was discovered to have pleaded guilty earlier this month to making false statements to the FBI.

Today may well go down as a major turning point in the Trump Administration, so of course, political cartoonists were at the ready to satirize and make light of the moment. here are some of the best comic reactions to today’s news:

From the New Yorker:

“Did you say ‘trick’? Maybe that’s it. maybe it’s been one long, horrible trick.”

From Randy Bish:

  • Over at Creators Syndicate, Steve Benson plays on Trump’s predilection for ignoring the information in front of him in favor of his own narrative.
  • Cartoonist Bill Day‘s take on the indictment’s implications for the current administration as a whole is bold and brash (and hopefully apt).
