Jane Foster’s run as  THor is coming to an end soon…and so is Jane Foster’s life. And it’s coming in Mighty Thor #705, from the generally acclaimed run of Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. Foster has been battling cancer for her whole run as Mighty Thor and it looks like the disease is winning this time.

The world of Mighty Thor and Odinson has been turned upside down, literally and figuratively — the Mangog’s attack on Asgardia has left the realm, and the gods who inhabit it, decimated. And the Mangog isn’t done yet! While Odinson’s responsibility is to protect his people, Mighty Thor must make a choice: fight Mangog by picking up Mjolnir – which guarantees that Jane Foster will perish – or watch the world fall.

There is no choice…

Prepare yourself as Jane Foster picks up Mjolnir one last time in MIGHTY THOR #705, and witness the death of a hero!

  1. I do wonder where the three Thor storyline would of gone before the Jane Foster Story took over the plots Jason Aaron started his run with. Were the plots involving young, current and old man thor explored in the last three years. I did not read this title. It’s really hard for me to get into the character of Odinson/ Daughter? Was Jane Foster Thor a Reboot or was it a continuation of the awesome Godkiller / 3 Thors plotline I liked 5 years ago.

  2. General Eric, I think Jane becoming Thor was always part of Aaron’s intended story. I can’t really be sure but I think that the last we saw of the old Thor was when he beat Galactus, and the same issue cued in that Thor was unworthy. Personally, I stopped buying Thor before then because I found the story underwhelming (and I would much rather have bought, and did, Aaron’s Southern Bastards, where he certainly wasn’t dialling anything in like with Thor, I felt).

I think it’s probable Aaron might return to reflect on Thor if Odinson becomes the spotlight again; probably as he intended.

Personally, I felt like Foster’s run as Thor was beset by too many convolutions, with three rememberings, fitting into CW2, SW, confusion with titles with Odinson (my experience). I might have bought them in tpb but the release into hardcover and then softcover of Thor stiil remains excruciatingly slow.

I’ll read the recent Thor probably soon but I preferred buying both the kid Loki and then Lady Sif runs in JIM, prior to Aaron’s run. Simpler and more enjoyable stories, and Sif by L Simonson and Schitti was a blast particularly (reminiscent of Joe Keating’s Glory, I kind of felt).

Some good stories to pick up in tpb. Wonder what’s next for Thor, and Aaron, if he remains on Thor

  3. I’m not sure about comics retailing and methods for getting people to try books, but if customers are buying JF Thor, I’d be trying to promote to them the JiM Lady Sif tpb, or maybe Keatinge’s reimagining of Glory. I can only think readers would thank you
