As Misty 2024 Special hits shelves in the UK, Rebellion have provided an additional peek at the Gail Simone-helmed issue of the classic British horror anthology. The 48-page comic is available now from the 2000 AD webshop in print and digital editions with the US edition slated for August 21 (Previews code MAY241900), priced at $12.50.

From the Rebellion press release:

“Dare you read it alone?

“A classic horror series rises from beyond the grave in 2024, featuring four brand-new chilling adventures from some of the most terrifyingly talented creators in comics!

“Misty, the classic horror series for young women, has been resurrected by megastar writer Gail Simone, who is being joined by a murderers’ row of talent for an all-new 48 page anthology special publishing on the 17th July 2024.”

Three of the four stories in Misty 2024 Special are written by America’s own Gail Simone – and each intriguingly feature the comic’s fictional host Misty herself. The artists on Simone’s stories are Carola Borelli, Aly Fell, Ellie Wright, and Marianna Ignazzi – with the fourth being entirely written and drawn by Letty Wilson. Tula Lotay provides the cover art.

Story summaries:

“In Eleven Lonely Deaths, a true-crime podcaster visits a decades-old crime scene where eleven women lost their lives at the hands of a vicious strangler. There, he meets a mysterious young woman who knows more about the crimes than should be possible…

“At The Pub at the End of the Road, an unscrupulous landlord of a dreary pub in the English countryside makes his gifted daughter work her fingers to the bone, and turns a blind eye to the customers’ wandering hands. She seeks solace in a secret love… until she’s forced to use her extraordinary gifts…

“Wishing Happy Birthday, Mrs. Parker seems like a nice gesture from the staff of a remote nursing home in England. But the staff are hiding a secret which will catch you completely off-guard…

“The Cracked Glass – from writer/artist Letty Wilson, this dark story will get you thinking twice before you look in the mirror…”

Misty was a cult classic weekly British supernatural horror anthology aimed explicitly at the girls comics market. Founded by prolific writer, editor and 2000 AD founder Pat Mills, it was published by Fleetway between 1978 and 1980, running for over a hundred issues before being folded into fellow girls comic Tammy (then renaming it for a time to Tammy and Misty).

Since hoovering up the rights to a vast swathe of the classic British comics catalogue once published under the Fleetway/IPC umbrella, Rebellion have been keen on reviving old faves with reprints and specials. Misty‘s first modern return in 2017’s Scream & Misty special. The Misty 2024 Special is the second one that the title has gone solo in a modern iteration – following 2020’s Misty Winter Special.
