Fans of Christophe Bec’s critically-acclaimed Promethee series will soon get a prequel with Promethee 13:13, coming next year from writer Andy Diggle (The Losers, Thief of Thieves) and artist Shawn Martinbrough (Thief of Thieves, Detective Comics).

The new series will be available for free to members of Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, or comiXology Unlimited. This makes sense, given that the book is a joint effort between ComiXology and French indie publisher Delcourt Group, which put out the original 16-volume Promethee series. The prequel will consist of two 48-page volumes available simultaneously in English and French, and it will be headed by veteran editor Will Dennis with covers by Jock (Batman, The Losers). Exact release dates are forthcoming.

The original Promethee, a huge hit in France, is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series. The new book is being billed as both an expansion that will appeal to long-time fans and a gateway into the story for newcomers, which one presumes is the vast majority of American readers. For those interested in starting the original (a group in which I count myself), Promothee Vol. 1: Atlantis is currently available via comiXology unlimited.

The official press release is below:

ComiXology, Amazon’s premier digital comics service, and Delcourt Group, the leading independent comic book publisher in France, join forces to bring readers everywhere a prequel to Christophe Bec’s best-selling, mind-bending, science-fiction bandes dessinées Promethee. Promethee 13:13. Created by Andy Diggle and Shawn Martinbrough with covers by Jock, Promethee 13:13 will be exclusively available on Kindle and comiXology through comiXology Originals. To celebrate this announcement, the all-star Promethee 13:13 team will be signing exclusive, limited edition posters illustrated by Jock at the comiXology NYCC Artist Alley table #1B5.

Headed by veteran editor Will Dennis, written by Andy Diggle (The Losers, Thief of Thieves, Hellblazer, Uncanny) with art by Shawn Martinbrough (Thief of Thieves, Batman: Detective Comics, The Black Panther, Hellboy, How to Draw Noir Comics: The Art and Technique of Visual Storytelling) and covers by Jock (Batman, The Losers), Promethee 13:13 will explore what happened before Christophe Bec‘s 16-volume Promethee series.
