More news from MTV Geek, who’ve revealed that Paul Cornell’s much-speculated secret new comic will be a Doctor Who Special for IDW. Jimmy Broxton, who collaborated with Cornell on the recent Saucer Country series for Vertigo, will draw the issue.

Paul Cornell is the most qualified comics writer to handle a Doctor Who comic, having written the best-by-far episode of the rebooted series so far. That came in the form of the ‘Human Nature/Family of Blood’ storyline he gave David Tennant a few years back. Forget Blink – those two episodes were by far the best thing to come from Doctor Who’s reboot. Apart from maybe Jenna Louise Coleman, who is QUITE LOVELY. Woof.

This one-shot from Cornell and Broxton will pull The Doctor into our real-life universe, where he’ll meet both a Doctor Who superfan AND the actual Matt Smith, the actor. Which means that Doctor Who now is officially part of a separate universe to ours? Sounds promising:

In this special one-shot story, a strange force flings the TARDIS and the Doctor into our own universe! Once here, the Doctor encounters a 10-year-old girl who happens to be a huge fan of the Doctor Who TV show. The Doctor grapples with being a fictional character as well as and a monster lurking at the girl’s school on the way to coming face-to-face with the actor who portrays him, Matt Smith!

The one-shot will be released this December from IDW.

  1. You missed out the rather important fact that this will be IDW’s final DW comic and that a new publisher will take over in 2014.

  2. Ben beat me to it on ‘Human Nature’. Also comparing it favourably to ‘Blink’ is not particularly profound given that ‘Blink’ is a shoddy half-finished draft of an episode.
