BOOM! Studios is rushing to meet unprecedented demand for Once & Future #1, the debut issue of a new series by Kieron GillenDan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain. The six-issue series debuts August 14, but has already sold out of its third printing at the distributor level, prompting the publisher to fast-track a fourth printing with a new cover to meet demand.

“We’re excited for fans to go to their comic shops at midnight tonight to discover just why Once & Future #1 is the hottest series launch in BOOM! Studios history,” said BOOM! Studios President of Sales and Marketing Filip Sablik in a statement. “And to make sure that readers don’t miss out on this historic launch, BOOM! Studios is fast tracking even more copies of the series premiere.”

Once & Future tackles Arthurian myth through ex-monster hunter Bridgette McGuire and her grandson Duncan as they jump into a world of magic and mythicism to defeat a group of nationalists who want to bring an old foe back from the dead.

In an interview with The Beat at San Diego Comic-Con, Gillen said that while the series isn’t political per se, “All books are political.” Further, he added, “I’ve had this idea for quite a while, but it became more sharpened with the lunacy of my country at the moment in terms of it tearing itself apart over this.”
